Richard Florsheim (1916-1979)

Richard Aberle Florsheim (1916-1979) was a well listed American artist from Chicago, IL, known for his depictions of abstract urban and marine views in a style described as modern, modernist, and modernism.

Florsheim was born in Chicago, IL, and studied at the University of Chicago. He was active as a painter, sculptor and graphics artist in Chicago; Milwaukee, WI; Woodstock, NY; and Provincetown, RI. His career included the following:

  • teacher at the Contemporary Art Workshop in Chicago
  • teacher at the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee
  • assistant director of the Arts Center Association in Woodstock
  • member of the Chicago Society of Artists
  • member of the National Academy of Design
  • member of the Society of American Graphic Artists
  • board member of the Illinois Arts Council
  • Trustee and Vice President of the Provincetown Art Association
